Remedies of Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a term that means inflammation of the lining of the trachea and bronchi which are the tubes leading from the throat to the lungs. The mucus lining of the trachea, the bronchi and the lungs becomes reddened and swollen due to the inflammation. This in turn causes increased mucus production leading to cough and sputum, shortness of breath and tightness in the chest. Depending on the severity of symptoms, it may be diagnosed as either Acute Bronchitis or Chronic Bronchitis.Acute Bronchitis is seen in both children and adults.

A child with acute bronchitis may initially exhibit signs of common cold such as a runny nose, sore throat and mild fever. Dry cough develops a few days later which turns moist in a day or two. There may be slight wheezing too. Acute bronchitis in children may not need medical treatment and generally goes away on its own in 10 days to a few weeks. Adults may experience similar symptoms along with thick yellow or greenish mucus and pain when they cough, body pains and chills.

Among adults, smoking is the most common cause of chronic bronchitis. Children with common cold and cough who live around a smoker are more likely to develop acute bronchitis. For a smoker, a bout of acute bronchitis can be much harder to recover from when compared to a non-smoker in good health. The likelihood of it progressing into chronic bronchitis is also much higher. Chronic bronchitis causes the mucus membranes of the trachea and the lungs to remain swollen and irritated, and over time, cause the cilia, small structures in the lung that move out mucus, to be permanently damaged. Further, the constant presence of mucus in the lungs may result in scarring, distortion and irreversible damage to the airways in the lungs.

There are two types of bronchitis: acute and chronic bronchitis. There can also be another type of bronchitis, but only in people who suffer from asthma.

The first type of bronchitis, the acute one, can develop from a cold that you might suffer and usually lasts a week at the most. It can also be caused by viral infections. It is accompanied by cough, pain in the middle of the chest and sometimes even fever. When suffering from acute bronchitis, one might experience some shortness of breath, but very little and fro short periods of time.Allergic bronchitis is a type of respiratory disorder. It is commonly referred to as allergic asthma. The immune system of a person suffering from allergic bronchitis is highly sensitive and so hyperactive that it attacks even harmless foreign substances that enter the body. To put it in other words, the immune system labels a harmless entrant into the body as "dangerous" and produces antibodies to fight against it.

The condition called bronchitis is the inflammation of the bronchial tree; tonsillitis is the inflammation of to tonsils localized on the posterior side of the mouth. Both diseases are caused mainly by bacteria or viruses, but can also be unleashed by polluting factors or different substances causing irritation. The most common cause of tonsillitis is still the bacteria Streptococcus with its preferred localization in the mouth and throat.

In bronchitis, the occurred inflammation affects the cills on the bronchial mucosa and lowers their movements so they cannot evacuate mucus and foreign particles no more. Also the mucus secretion is stimulated and the phenomenon of coughing appears during bronchitis. Triggers of bronchial inflammation are especially inhaled dust or pollutants, smoking, but also viral determinants such as Rhinoviruses, Adenoviruses, Influenza and Epstein-Barr.
